Funded Surf Courses

The Wave Project runs funded surf courses for disadvantaged children and young people. These are free of charge to participants, and to professionals who make the referrals. We also provide transport to and from the beach for clients who need it.

Courses usually last for six weeks, with one session per week lasting around two hours. They are overseen by professional surf instructors and supported by volunteers, in order that each client receives 1:1 assistance in the water. The focus is on building confidence and self-esteem, having fun and developing new skills. We also encourage clients to work together to create a sense of teamwork.

For a detailed explanation of how the groups work, and how we evaluate them, please download our evaluation report.

Clients must be referred to these courses by a professional, such as a doctor, mental health worker, teacher or youth worker. Unfortunately, we cannot self-refer, or accept referrals from parents. Please access our referrals page to find out more.
