Adaptive Surfing Success: Felix’s Journey with The Wave Project
This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming Felix, a young boy with a brain injury, to The Wave Project. After years of anticipation from his family, Felix has now enjoyed multiple Adaptive Surfing sessions with us, lighting up with excitement every time he gets into the water.

Felix was born with a brain injury, and even in his early days, his parents were dreaming of the day he could take part in The Wave Project. Fast forward to today, and we are delighted to share that Felix, now seven years old, has completed four surf sessions with us this summer and loved every minute!
Felix’s family reports that, from the moment he arrived, his excitement was contagious: “He’s all about the adrenaline rush, and the grin on his little face when he is being pushed out into the surf is just the best.”

At The Wave Project, we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to each participant’s unique needs. Felix’s mother praised our team’s approach:
“Felix’s instructors and the volunteer crew always greet him with huge enthusiasm and take a lot of care to find out what he does and doesn’t like. They are always great at adapting to his communication methods and really make him feel like part of the team.”
We believe in the power of family support, and we’re delighted that Felix’s little sister has also joined in on the fun. Our goal is to ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to enjoying the sea and surfing. Felix’s family’s experience underscores this commitment: “We moved to Cornwall because we both love the sea and surfing and our dream was to raise our kids to surf as well. It means the world to us that this has been enabled by The Wave Project, and that Felix’s disability hasn’t been a barrier to him enjoying the sea and the surf.
“Felix said he loves surfing with The Wave Project because he loves getting wet and splashed by the waves. The team are all nice and friendly, and his favourite part is being pushed out into the surf facing the waves so he gets splashed in the face by them! He said the surfboard is really comfortable.”
