Supporting Adaptive Surfing at Para Surf Roadshow with Surfing England

At The Wave Project we make surfing accessible for everyone, regardless of their abilities or challenges. This inclusive approach was in action recently when we attended Surfing England’s Para Surf Roadshow event in Croyde.

The Para Surf Roadshow, now in its fifth of six locations across the country this season, is a groundbreaking initiative designed to introduce new athletes to surfing. On the 7th of August, our Croyde team collaborated with Surfing England’s Adaptive Pathway Manager and the head coach of the England Para Surf Team to deliver an unforgettable experience for participants with a diverse range of needs.

From wheelchair users to individuals with visual impairments, the event welcomed a broad spectrum of abilities. Our dedicated volunteers were on hand to ensure that each participant received the support and encouragement needed to catch their first waves.

Hosted at Surf South West, the venue has recently been recognised as England’s first Adaptive Surfing Hub. Events like the Para Surf Roadshow are crucial in breaking down barriers and demonstrating that the ocean’s therapeutic powers can be experienced by everyone, regardless of physical or mental challenges.

We’re committed to expanding our efforts to make surfing even more inclusive, working alongside partners like Surfing England to create more opportunities for adaptive surfing across the UK.
