Celebrating Clare’s Day
July 17th marks Clare’s Day, a celebration of the legacy of Clare Milne and her continued impact through The Clare Milne Trust
Freddie and Zoe have been surfing with The Wave Project for 5 years, travelling many miles to reach our Adaptive Surfing hub in Croyde. Over the past few years, their visits have upped to twice-yearly trips to get those extra surf sessions in!
Adaptive Surfing at The Wave Project is always a bespoke surfing experience, as we look to help realise every surfer’s potential. With our continual development of equipment, we are able to really push the boundaries for some people. And with the support of the Clare Milne Trust, we can continue to do just that.
Surfer Zoe’s mum explains: ‘Zoe has always loved the water and especially the sea. She has been coming to surf with The Wave Project for a few years now and always loves it. It is a highlight every summer.
‘The surf team always find ways to help her get the most out of it, but this last weekend was exceptional and she enjoyed using the board in different ways. The frame enabled her to stand up on the board for the first time. [I] never imagined she would do that – and keep doing it, again and again – confident in the movement of the board, letting go with one hand, falling off and getting straight back on again.

Who was Clare Milne?
Clare lived in Devon, embracing life with Cerebral Palsy with a huge heart, great sense of humour and real character. Perhaps it becomes a little clearer knowing that she was the only grandchild of A.A. Milne, the creator of Winnie-The-Pooh; her father was the real Christopher Robin. Though her time was far too short, Clare brought so much joy to her 56 years. Many people who knew her recount many lovely stories, always involving fun and laughter.
