Clevedon Yeo Rotary Club donates £500 to help fund Surf Therapy for young people in Bristol

Clevedon Yeo Rotary Club visited The Wave Project’s Bristol Surf Therapy Hub and donated £500 to help more young people access life-changing mental health support.
Since 2020, and with the support of over 130 trained volunteers, The Wave Project Bristol has supported more than 230 children and young people through Surf Therapy, while also providing ongoing support through Surf Club. This support helps young people aged 8 to 18 who are experiencing social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Participants are introduced to surfing in a safe and supportive environment where they can overcome fears of the water, build confidence, and develop resilience – skills that extend far beyond the shoreline.
Following a presentation delivered to Clevedon Yeo Rotary Club about the charity’s work, members were keen to see the impact first-hand. A visit to The Wave provided a powerful insight into the organisation’s work, allowing Rotarians to see Surf Therapy in action and witness the positive difference being made.
Tony Carrington of Clevedon Yeo Rotary Club commented: “It was wonderful to hear about the amazing work the charity is doing across the UK. Seeing a Surf Therapy session in action was incredible and we were very keen to help support such an inspiring cause.”
The Rotary Club’s visit highlights a shared commitment to improving the wellbeing of young people and strengthening local communities.
Matilda Jackson, The Wave Project Bristol Coordinator, said: “We were delighted to welcome members of the Clevedon Yeo Rotary Club to one of our Surf Therapy sessions last week so they could see first-hand the positive impact the programme has on young people. We are incredibly grateful for their generous donation which will help us provide more Surf Therapy sessions and enable even more young people to access the support they need. Partnerships like this make a real difference, and we would like to thank the Clevedon Rotary Club for their commitment to supporting the wellbeing of young people in our community.”
Businesses and community groups can support The Wave Project through sponsorship, employee fundraising, volunteering and strategic partnerships. £850 funds a six-week Surf Therapy course for one young person with mental health challenges, and donations help more children and young people access Surf Therapy and transform lives.
