Home/Get Involved

Our charity is built on volunteers. The generosity of our amazing extended Wave Project family helps us to continue our Surf Therapy courses and Surf Club and, with endless opportunities to lend a hand, we will never have enough volunteers. Whether you would like to become a surf mentor, shop assistant, events volunteer, office intern or fundraiser we would love to hear from you.

Volunteering with The Wave Project can be extremely rewarding and a whole lot of fun but don’t just take our word for it, read what some of our awesome volunteers have to say:

“I feel proud to be part of the fantastic Wave Project family. It’s just so rewarding to help children (including my son Tom) to change their live through surfing. The highlight has been the Summer Surf Challenge. So many people working together as a team. I love helping in our shop too. People are amazed at the high quality of items they can get at such reasonable prices. I recommend volunteering to anyone.” Jenny Wickham, Shop & Event/Fundraising Volunteer

“It’s really awesome to be a part of the buzz and excitement around sharing what the Wave Project do with the public! It’s such a positive Charity and all about sharing the good vibes, so I’d definitely recommend getting involved!” Nell Crowden, Event Volunteer & Surf Mentor

“I love volunteering at the surf therapy sessions because it allows me to share my passion for surfing in a positive way which helps change lives for the better. The Wave Project is the perfect opportunity to get in the water and make a difference!” Theo Cockrean, West Cornwall Lead Volunteer

Our volunteers are superheroes and are a credit our success. Since our first surf therapy course and first fundraising event, we have relied heavily on their support and continue to do so. They go above and beyond for our charity and as you can see from just a few testimonials they enjoy every minute of it!

The programme is a real motivator for our students.  They look forward to attending and are buzzing with excitement when they return.”

Year 9 Pastoral Team

After completing Beach School I joined The Wave Project Surf Club!

Year 9 Student, Cornwall

The student’s were openly sharing knowledge and understanding with peers when the lesson covered aspects of the curriculum covered during Beach School, such as erosion and geography.

Teacher, Beach School

“Beach School has had a positive and lasting impact on the majority of the pupils who participated.   Improving pupil outcomes reducing antisocial learning behaviours, raising pupil engagement and aspiration.”

Teacher, Beach School

“My son loves the Wave Project and all the guys are absolutely fantastic. He is able to be himself and is accepted for who he is. He could not wait to go surfing every week and showed an excitement. Instead of trying to fit in and be someone he is not. They have fun and the atmosphere and positivity is amazing. The happiest days are with the Wave Project. So thank you, you really do change children’s lives.”

Parent, Cornwall

“The Wave Project has totally inspired my son. It has the right balance of challenge, excitement, relaxation, being part of a group. It also helps with his confidence, mood and sensory difficulties. It ticks all the boxes really. Plus we parents get a bit of a rest, can chat to other parents and have a cup of tea on the beach! He always says being in the sea is where he feels happiest and where his worries all go away…”

Mum, Dorset

Surfing has given my son confidence and self esteem that, as a teenager living with high functioning autism, he never had before. This amazing work should not be underestimated.

Parent, Isle of Wight
