Its with thanks to support the from Foundation for Children that surf therapy launched for young people in Bristol in September 2020. Ten young people were referred, and as a result have been able to access the first course at this amazing facility. The Wave is the first man made pool in the northern hemisphere to utilise wave garden technology, meaning there were plenty of waves to go around!

The launch was a great success, with so much energy from all involved. The young people arrived anxious, but by the end of the first session it was smiles all round.

Big thank you to all our volunteers for coming along to give their time and support, we could not have asked for a better bunch. We cannot wait to continue with this first course, and continue to offer this mental health intervention to more young people living inland.

Project Coordinator - Bristol

I’m the Bristol Project Coordinator. After working as the Bristol Project Assistant for the last 1.5 years, I am stoked to have taken on the Project Coordinator role. I work directly with young people, referral partners, and our volunteers to deliver & oversee our Surf Therapy courses and Surf Club at The Wave, here in Bristol. I’m passionate about making surfing more inclusive and believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the freedom and joy of surfing, regardless of their background or ability. I feel privileged to get to bring the magic of Surf Therapy to an urban area like Bristol, and I love nothing more than seeing the smiles on young people’s faces when they catch their first ever wave!
