Sidmouth Surf Club Success
The Wave Project South Devon for the first time dived in at Sidmouth on Saturday, with a Surf Club session. Sunshine, fun waves and an awesome bunch of enthusiastic volunteers greeted our keen surfers down at the beach. The session was so much fun and was great to see the beaming smiles of everyone in the water.
“I just wanted to say thank you for Saturday and the opportunity, loved every second
and I know everyone else did”
“My whole life revolves around the sea from leisure to rescue and I see the benefits of the water and nature every day. It was a genuine honour to stand on my local beach and hear the laughter and see the smiles of the kids and volunteers with the wave project. So stoked to be a part of such an amazing group of people. Can’t wait for the next one.” Guy (Jurassic Paddle Sports)
The Wave Project in South Devon started in 2015 with Discovery Surf School at Bigbury, last year it expanded from Bigbury into Torbay with great success, thanks to the fantastic team at Reach Outdoors. However, some young people in South Devon where still traveling over 50 miles by car to reach a session when there is a beach closer to home. With Sidmouth it allows us to take The Wave Project closer to some of our young people as well as connecting with a new community of volunteers.
We already have some young people from East Devon Referred to the Wave Project and we welcome more referrals with a hope to do a surf therapy course from Sidmouth in 2020.
The session was such a success that we are going to run another session on Saturday 12th October at 12:30-14:30. If you would like to volunteer please head to the website to register your interest. https://www.waveproject.co.uk/volunteer-sign-up/
