Summer Surf Challenge 2022

We are stoked to announce that our annual surf event for people with disabilities, The Summer Surf Challenge, will be going ahead on the 9th July.

Children and young adults with disabilities will be taking to the waves at Watergate Bay, Cornwall, to try surfing, with the support of trained surf coaches and volunteer surf mentors from across the UK.

The free event, now in its seventh year, is the only free surfing event in the UK to cater for people with all disabilities.

Visitors to Cornwall along with local residents are welcome to join on the day, though advanced booking is strongly recommended.

Founder Joe Taylor said: “As a charity we believe that everyone should be able to benefit from the joy of surfing.

“For disabled people, it can be daunting to face the prospect of getting into the surf. This event is about giving everyone the confidence to believe they can do it.

“We have our most experienced adaptive surf coaches and over 100 trained volunteers on standby, ready to support anyone who wants to take up the challenge. Join us on 9 July at Watergate Bay for an amazing experience – all completely free.”

This year’s event is being supported by The Watergate Bay Hotel and Saltrock.

Joe added: “The atmosphere down on the beach is always emotional for our surfers and their families. Surfing may not have been something our participants have ever felt able to do, but we’ll catch waves with them and show them that they are just as able to enjoy the surf.”
