Surf Therapy: A Bright Spot for Families in Northern Ireland

When life feels overwhelming, even small moments of joy can make a world of difference. For one family in Northern Ireland, The Wave Project became a lifeline during a particularly challenging time:

“We’ve been going through a very difficult period with our surfer, with sharp declines in their self-esteem, confidence, and behaviour,” the family shared.

While Surf Therapy could not solve all the challenges they faced, it provided something invaluable: moments of relief, connection and hope.

“On one weekend, The Wave Project lifted their spirits enough that it undoubtedly saved our family from what would have been a very bad episode.”

Initially reluctant to attend, the surfer quickly embraced our programme, building trust with a mentor and friendships with other participants. By the end of the first session, they couldn’t wait to return and now ask every weekend if Surf Club is on.

“The Wave Project provided a bright spot in the midst of a difficult time, and we truly appreciated it.”

This story is just one of many examples of how Surf Therapy can transform lives. But to continue supporting young people, we need your help.
