The visit formed part of the launch of the Beach Accessibility in the UK report at the House of Commons, bringing together organisations, campaigners and advocates who share a common goal: making beaches and blue spaces more accessible for everyone.

For years, Ian has been leading vital work from our Project Hub in Croyde, helping to push boundaries around what Adaptive Surfing can and should look like. Our team’s dedication, knowledge and lived experience have helped position Croyde (and our other four Adaptive Surfing Hubs) at the forefront of beach accessibility in the UK, creating opportunities for more people to safely access the coast, the ocean and the life-changing benefits of blue spaces.

At The Wave Project, we see every day how powerful the sea can be for mental health, confidence and connection. But for many people, physical barriers still prevent equal access to beaches and surfing opportunities.

The report launched today will help inform a Green Paper focused on improving accessibility across the UK, a significant step towards long-term change. Ian and Nikki were invited to share their expertise directly with MPs, ensuring that real experiences and practical knowledge are helping shape future policy and thinking.
