Thickness 

Wetsuits come in different thicknesses depending on water temperature and time of year and range from 1mm rash vests to 7mm suits for freezing waters. Most recreational surfers wear wetsuits in the 3mm – 6mm range. We recommend 3mm for summer, 4/3mm for a reasonable all-rounder which will support you from March – November, and 5mm+ for winter use. If you know you get colder quicker, we always suggest opting for a thicker wetsuit! 

Most importantly, what you need will depend on where and when you plan to use your wetsuit. Full suits cover your core, arms and legs, while shorty wetsuits have short sleeves/legs and are ideal for the summer in Cornwall.  

Size 

It’s always best to try it before you buy a wetsuit to get the best fit. Our wetsuits are sorted by size and style, with options for men, women and children. While sizing is similar to regular clothing, not all brands use the same measurements, so we are always happy to help. Stock changes daily, so it is always worth popping back if you cannot find the right fit straight away.   

Access

Wetsuits come with different entry styles, and each has its own benefits. Back zips are a great option if you are new to wetsuits or prefer a bit more room to get them on and off. Chest zips offer better warmth and a closer fit, helping to keep cold water out while surfing. Zip-free suits are the best performing; however, they can take a bit more effort to change in and out of. 

Your wetsuit should feel like a second skin, tight but not restrictive. If it is too baggy it will let too much water in and will be less effective or too tight and your movement will be restricted. Our team is on hand to help you find the perfect balance.

Our Pre-loved Wetsuit Scheme is part of a circular economy, keeping neoprene out of landfill. The scheme reduces the environmental impact of neoprene production and raises much-needed funds for Surf Therapy programmes across the UK. 

The pilot project has been made possible thanks to £116,000 from the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme, £22,500 from SUEZ and £7,500 from The Wave Project.
